Ponga Help

Can I create a video to add to my picture?

Absolutely! It's easy to create a fun video-based welcome to your Ponga picture. Invite friends & family with your own smiling face.

There are many ways to record video these days from Instagram and TikTok to Photobooth and your camera app. What may not be obvious is that you can use any of these methods to record a quick little video to welcome friends and family to your ponga picture.

All you do is make the recording, upload it to a hosting site, and include the link in your Ponga picture.

Currently, there are some differences in how different sites host video that affect whether it can be embedded in Ponga so that it plays without a user having to leave Ponga to view it.

Record your video:

  • The camera app on your mobile device
  • Photobooth (MacOS), Windows Camera (Windows 10)
  • Webcam recording apps like LogiCapture
  • Zoom or other web-conferencing apps
  • Video-to-digital conversions that result in .mp4 and other standard video formats

Upload your video (such as .mp4 format file) to a hosting site

  • YouTube (we recommend posting as "unlisted")
  • Vimeo (requires paid account)
  • Wistia (free account for a limited number of recordings)
  • Loom (free account for a limited number of recordings)
  • Animoto (video production tool allows sharing as links, paid account)

🗝 The key is to capture your link to paste it into Ponga.

Note that many sites that play a video directly on their sites don't supply that video as an embed. Examples include:

  • Instagram
  • TikTok
  • Twitter
  • Dropbox

Including links to these kinds of public sites can be fun, but there are two key differences:

  1. Generally, your viewers will see the comment and a still image. They'll have to follow the link to see the video.
  2. The posts your referencing are public by default.

You can directly embed more private videos using an unlisted link from YouTube, Vimeo, or even Loom.

Note: To bring external content into Ponga, paste the video link into the Comment window then hit "enter," "return" or just add a space. That added space tells Ponga to reach out to the web for external content. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, you may need to wait a few seconds for the external content to come in.
